ADVANTAGES OF SSD
The conventional hard drive or HDD has been undoubtedly the conventional storage device for most computers for the better part of the twenty-first century. Despite their shortcoming, they have served us and enabled us to achieve a lot. Flash forward to 2016, and we have the SSD or Solid State Disk, the successor to our beloved HDD. In this article, we will look at the advantages of SSD and why you should have bought it yesterday.
Benefits of SSD
BLAZING FAST
With access speeds of up to up to 6 Gbit/s, which is over ten times that of the fastest HDD, SDD’s are blazing fast. The technology used in making SSD allows being carried out without any moving parts. The memory banks are accessed programmatically using circuitry that is made up of fast conductors that can transmit information quickly. This makes a better storage medium given its quick response compared to its alternatives.
DURABLE
Given the fact that SSD do not have any moving parts, they tend to be more durable than the HDD. HDD’s have mechanical moving parts that create a lot of heat while moving, creating a lot of excess heat that leads to the inner plates wearing off. The absenteeism of any moving parts makes SSD’s more durable. Research and tests have shown that SSD’s are less susceptible to drops. If a device with an SSD dropped from a high position, chances are the SSD will not be damaged.
EFFICIENT
SSD’s have no moving parts, take less space and use less power to give results that outperform other storage media. They also have a much longer lifespan given that they operate on a moderately small power. They also do not produce any form of noise that can sometimes be heard with an HDD. This makes it perfect for traveling with as it also occupies minimal space.
MAGNETISM
We have all seen that scene in a movie where hackers used a huge magnet to wipe data from an HDD in an elevator as it was being taken to police evidence, well, chances are a few of us have seen that movie. The moral of the story here is that HDD is prone to data loss if interfered with a strong magnetic field. SSD’s do not have this flaw, making them perfect for use if your environment has a lot of magnets. This also allows it to store information longer before the data is corrupted or defragmented.
